Packing dos & don’ts

Here are some ways that fellow Nevada County residents can be smarter about packing their stuff.

Do: Don’t:
  • Utilize all the space in your unit. Leave an aisle in the center of your unit so that you have a walk way to the back of the unit.
  • Label your boxes on all sides. This will save you time if you have to look for something in particular. Always put the heavier boxes on the bottom and the lighter ones on top. To keep from crushing bottom boxes.
  • Store frequently used items at the front of the unit to avoid having to search for them.
  • To protect your items cover them with¬† sheets or light blankets.
  • Store mirrors and paintings on end. Wrapped if possible.
  • If it is possible store couches on end. Stack chairs on top of each other. When stacking furniture use some kind of pad/wrapping in between the items to avoid scratching.
  • You can stack things on top of your tables and store things under your tables if you don’t tear them down.
  • Do not use plastic to cover your belongings. It can cause mildew.
  • Do not store food items
  • Do not store live animals or plants in your unit…even for a day!
  • Do not pack boxes so full that they are too heavy to carry, especially when you are packing books.
  • Do not give out your password, gate code or any information to anyone unless you want them in your storage. We cannot give the information to anyone but you.
  • Do not use printed newspaper. The ink could smudge
  • Do not forget to clean appliances before storing them.
  • Do not store any toxins or flammable’s such as paint, oil or gasoline. Never store drugs of any kind in your unit.
